Rutland Healing Group

Encouraging the community to be more aware their mental health

Rutland Healing Group exhibition

This is a steering committee for Heritage Mental Health; this is a project to encourage the community to be more concerned about their mental health, the history of mental health and to consider a variety of ways to find recovery. The Group was awarded an Opportunities for Volunteering (OFV) grant by Attend in 2008.

The project was set up to advance the education of the public in the subject of Mental Health. The Rutland Healing Group promote the physical, emotional and mental health of sufferers of any mental health problem in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland through the provision of support, education, advocacy and practical counselling. They also advance the use of centring prayer, the Christian Healing Ministry and Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) as a way of achieving and understanding Mental Health recovery and issues among the wider public.

Quote

"The project has increased awareness about the treatment of patients and helped the wider public to understand the improvements made over the past 2,000 years towards Mental Health. We noticed a change in people’s attitude, even if was challenging at the beginning. But after our efforts to encourage people to look around the exhibition or buy the books by the end there was 100% increase in positive listening and response."
