Haringey Shed

Giving all young people the opportunity to shine in a professional theatrical environment

Haringey Shed

Haringey Shed is an inclusive music theatre company that gives all young people in Haringey, North London, regardless of ability or background, the opportunity to shine in a professional theatrical environment. They aim to use music, dance and drama to improve the lives of the young people who attend the music theatre workshops by promoting inclusion and increasing their confidence and skills. Inclusion is at the heart of Haringey Shed's ethos. This means that they always strive to work in ways that accommodate the needs of young people with a range of physical and learning abilities.

They run a Children’s Theatre for ages 7–10 and a Youth Theatre for ages 11–16 that meet every Tuesday evening throughout term times. The end of each term sees a performance by one or both companies. The productions often include a cast of hundreds and involve commercial directors, writers and musicians working together with the Haringey Shed team to deliver workshops. The Summer Theatre is now in its 8th year and still going strong.  They have a deserved reputation for giving young children and people, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, the chance to experience and participate in theatre for the first time. Haringey Shed bring the local community together through performance events, enhancing cohesion and a sense of community spirit.

They also run the Shed Band for ages 9–17, Big Noise Choir for ages 7–15 and the Very Vocals for ages 16+. Many of the young people are involved with the Haringey Shed Youth Forum providing opportunities for learning and development and to contribute to Haringey Shed’s vision. They specialise in offering young people chances to volunteer either through supporting our Children’s Theatre, Choir and Band sessions or working with our outreach team in local schools.

They work with a number of schools in Haringey providing a variety of different kinds of drama workshops, also offering training to teachers on how to work inclusively and how to integrate drama into the curriculum.

Haringey Shed volunteers not only provide valuable expertise and assistance but also help to create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere that supports the all-inclusive environment. They are always on the lookout for new volunteers who want to work in any capacity.
