Harlington Hospice
Support and care for terminally ill people and their friends and families.
Harlington Hospice has to raise £1 million a year from charitable activities. They receive less than 20% Government Funding. The money comes through all sorts of fundraising activities carried out by volunteers and the local community. They have five charity shops staffed by volunteers and paid managers which raise funds for the hospice.
This funds the Day Centre where terminally ill people can find companionship, counseling, reflexology and massage, Reiki, hairdressing and bathing, library and computer facilities as well as, Nursing care and advice.
The Hospice received an Opportunities for Volunteering grant from Attend to help them recruit volunteers from a wider variety of backgrounds. With Volunteers from as many diverse backgrounds as the service users themselves, they are able to offer a far more comprehensive support system, especially within the Hospice at Home service which provides care and support for the terminally ill and their family and Carers within their own homes.
