Workington Infirmary League of Friends
Maintaining fundraising during big changes
This League of Friends of 12 volunteers runs fundraising events to provide funds to enhance patient care at Workington Community Hospital.
The Workington Infirmary League of Friends are currently involved in holding Coffee Mornings on site at the hospital. They hold these every couple of months and have sales stalls which also raise funds.
The Friends were originally set up through local Church Groups to help the people of Workington, and have recently been through big changes; the old hospital was closed down and a new hospital built in the town centre. Unfortunately with this move, the Friends lost its main source of income - the tea bar - and this led to a reduction in income and volunteer numbers.
This was overcome by continuing to work closely with the hospital and The Friends are now looking at alternative ways to support patients. The group is in discussions with regards to setting up a Ward Visiting Scheme.
The Friends have a lot planned for the future; they are hoping to get younger people involved to ensure that the League of Friends at Workington continues way into the future.
