Friends of Brighton and Hove Hospitals

Innovative equipment

Friend

Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals work to provide innovative new equipment as well as patient comforts in hospitals and healthcare facilities across the City.
The Friends also act as a 'link', communicating information and raising awareness about healthcare services in our hospitals and the local community.
The Friends (formerly the League of Hospital Friends) are celebrating their Diamond Jubilee this year and are one of the longest established charitable organisations in Brighton & Hove.
In the last 60 years the Friends have raised over £13 million (in real terms) to provide innovative new equipment and enhance patient services for all of us. Almost everyone will at some time be 'a patient' and we work to ensure the services provided are the best they can be.

In the last year the Friends of Brighton and Hove Hospitals has provided a range of equipment for patients including:
Forty new beds for the elderly care wards
Two specialist support chairs for the high dependency Stroke Unit at Royal Sussex County Hospital
A Stephanie Ventilator at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton
New digital photography equipment for the Medical Photography Service at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust
A range of bariatric beds, hoists and chairs for loan in the community.

Volunteering is at the centre of all the work of Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals. Our Trustees are all volunteers and we also welcome help at:

The Friends Café at Hove Polyclinic is open five days a week with morning and afternoon shifts.
The friendly and relaxed atmosphere makes it very popular with patients and staff.

The Friends are setting up a café in the brand new Park Centre at Preston Park. Volunteers are sought for this service which we hope will be open by Summer 2009.

The Friends Shop is a traditional charity shop in Kemp Town selling a eclectic range of clothing and other items.

A new book "Brighton's County Hospital 1828 - 2007" by Harry Gaston is now available. Telling the story of the development of the Royal Sussex County Hospital from it's inception to the present day the book is well illustrated and provides a fascinating insight into the lives of patients and staff over nearly two hundred years. Copies can be ordered from the Friends Office. This makes a great gift for anyone who trained at or worked at The County'.
