Supporting adults with learning difficulties

Bristol and South Gloucestershire People First

Bristol and South Gloucestershire People First (BSGPF) supports adults with learning difficulties to have the same rights, choice and control, in their lives as everyone else in the community. This is achieved through a variety of projects, such as encouraging Black members, women's groups, person centred planning, training, access groups, side by side peer advocacy, campaigns and training. The group was set up by people with learning difficulties in 1996.

Quote

"BSGPF is important because it is run by people with learning difficulties and we decide what projects we want. We also decide who works here. 10 people with learning difficulties have got paid jobs with us. We also have five Health Trainers for a year." Kevin Spencer, BSGPF Chairperson

"Some of the work we do:

BSGPF support people with learning difficulties at the Learning Difficulty Partnership boards in South Gloucestershire and Bristol. We also support the South Gloucestershire Service Users Reference Group. We support RAC Student Representatives in South Gloucestershire.

We train staff like student social workers. We teach them to work with us in ways that show us respect and give us choice and control in our lives.

We work with other organisations to help them turn their information into easy English. We make some money doing this."

Attend golf day

After the success of last years inaugural charity golf day for Attend, we are offering another great opportunity to play golf at a beautiful centrally located course, nestled between picturesque locks, with panoramic views of the rolling countryside towards the River Trent.
The day provides an enjoyable occasion for networking, corporate entertaining, team building or simply a time to catch up with friends. Prompt bookings and pledges of support would be greatly appreciated.
