Managing Volunteers – 2 day ILM- accredited course

This course is designed to support line managers who have some devolved responsibility for recruiting and managing volunteers.

It is designed to support an organisation seeking to develop effective and robust volunteer management practice throughout their organisation.

 

Course content and accreditation

The programme is approved by the ILM as a Development Programme and participants who complete can be awarded an ILM certificate plus one year's membership from the ILM.

Managing Volunteers workshops 1 and 2 allow participants to consider a range of key issues related to volunteer management. Topics covered include:

 

  • The volunteering context and why people volunteer
  • What success would look like for volunteering
  • Our own role in volunteer management
  • Approaches to volunteer resourcing
  • Role design
  • Recruiting and matching volunteers to roles
  • Volunteer induction and additional support needs
  • Supporting volunteers in their activities
  • Reviewing progress with volunteers
  • Recognising volunteers’ contribution
  • Managing volunteering related problems

Delivery methods

Discussions and workshops led by approved Attend Academy tutors incorporating case studies, group and
individual exercises.
