Carer’s Assessment

You can request a carer’s assessment through your local council if you care for someone aged 18 or over regularly and spend a substantial amount of time doing so.

A carer’s assessment is to determine whether you are eligible to access any services that would make caring easier for you. You could be entitled to a range of services for you and the person you care for.

These could include:
• A break from caring
• Emotional support
• Housework
• Changes to equipment or adapting the home

Whether you are caring full-time or you are combining caring with paid employment or perhaps you live with or away from the person for whom you care, you are entitled to a carer’s assessment.
