New Chairman

After four dedicated years to Attend, our Chairman Richard Harries has made the difficult decision to step down from his role with us.

Richard said:

“This has been an extremely hard decision because I have so much affection and admiration for Attend and feel a close part of the team. I feel, however, that my recent move to become Deputy Director of the think-tank Reform means I am no longer offering the flexibility and time I feel Attend deserves from a Chairman.

“I felt that now was the best time to step down, in light of finding a remarkable new President for Attend – Lord Patel - and starting on a new financial year that happens to also signify the close of my fourth year in term.

“There have been many highlights to my time including the coming together of members at the Annual General Meetings and it has been the members that have most inspired me over my years as Chairman. In fact my favourite part of every board meeting was reading the proposals for new memberships and approving them.

“I look forward to many more years as a close friend of Attend and will watch with keen interest as Attend and its members no doubt continue to achieve huge success.”

Charles Perry will step up to the Chairman role from his role as Deputy Chair at Attend for the immediate future.

Charles is currently working as part of the Health at Work team at the Department of Health.

David Wood OBE, Chief Executive of Attend, said:

“I have very much appreciated working with Richard, and learned from his approach. Each Chairman I have worked with has brought very different skills and experiences to the post and it’s that tapestry of talents and personalities that I believe makes us strong as an organisation. As the saying goes, every ending is a new beginning and  I am excited at the changes that someone new at the helm will inevitably bring."
