The volunteers at New Forest Hospital Radio (NFHR) which is the Lymington New Forest Hospital’s own radio station were delighted by the response to their recent open day and live non-stop 32 hour broadcast to commemorate 35 years of broadcasting to patients at the hospital.
Hospital staff and patients entered into the spirit of the event which was designed to raise awareness of the services provided by NFHR and also the sponsorship of the event will help to raise funds for a vital piece of new hospital equipment called an Alice PDx Diagnostic System to tackle really bad snoring (or obstructive sleep apnoea) and help save lives.
Many members of the hospital staff gave up some of their time to be interviewed live about their particular role within the hospital and also selected some of their favourite music to be played. Visitors to the hospital also took the opportunity to view the state of the art studio during the live broadcast with some having their requests played for friends or relatives in the hospital.
The 22 NFHR presenters departed from their usual patients request programmes to devise a series of special feature shows, such as love songs, brass band music, soul and motown, classical and country to name a few. There were also local musicians who played live and the Mayor of Lymington popped in to give her version of Desert Island Discs.
The chairman of NFHR, Ian Bradbury, said “everyone in the team has made a sterling effort with both collectors and presenters lending a hand to make this a really enjoyable and successful event. We hope that the funds we raise will go towards this much needed equipment and there is still time to donate as the sponsorship monies are still being collected”.
NFHR broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you would like to donate or make a request you can ring the answering machine on 01590 663366 or speak to a studio presenter between 7.30pm and 9.30pm every day. The studio’s email address is studio@nfhradio.org.uk. Patients can also make requests to the studio at any time of day by using their (free) bedside phone on ext.3366.
