It’s fair to say that there’s not much going down in price these days, but that is exactly what is happening at the café operated by Exeter Leukaemia Fund in the Haematology Centre of the RD&E Hospital.
Exeter Leukaemia Fund exists to provide benefit to patients suffering from all types of blood disorders and cancers. One vital area of assistance is the provision of drinks and snacks through Café ELF which is situated in the reception area of the Haematology Centre. The service ensures patients can relax in comfort without having to walk to get refreshments and is an integral part of the charity’s patient care offering.
Dale Edwards, CEO, said “We are very aware that a cancer diagnosis can have a very serious impact on the financial well-being of our patients. Two years ago the charity took the decision not to raise prices at Café ELF for as long as possible, regardless of increases in costs. Now ELF has gone further, reducing prices by an average of 10% for the whole of 2013, due to the generosity of all those who raise funds for ELF.”
Paul Dupré, Café ELF Manager said, “I see many patients and their loved ones and it is a pleasure to serve them. Being able to reduce the cost of refreshments to patients is fantastic, as the café is a cornerstone the work of the charity and as such never seeks to generate a profit. I look forward to spreading the news about the discount to regulars and new customers alike”
Steve and Donna, Café ELF customers explained, “Café ELF is a great amenity for patients and relatives alike. Paul is always happy and friendly whilst serving, making it a positive experience for everyone. The fact this service exists and at such a great price makes being in the unit a slightly less stressful time. “
