PRS Licence

PRS stands for the Performing Rights Society and is an organisation that deals with collecting royalties in the UK, as well as internationally, for the music industry. A PRS licence may be necessary to play music at a public event.

PRS is not the same as PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited), which deals with collecting royalties in the music industry for record companies and performers. However, you will also need to obtain a PPL licence before being able to legally play sound recordings in public.

More information can be found on the information card called “PPL Licence” under Legal Issues.
