Offering Training & Qualifications for Volunteering

One of the reasons why people volunteer is to gain experience and skills to further or change careers. Volunteers it seems are also only able or are willing to commit to volunteering for shorter periods of time than in previous years.

 An increasing number of organisations are offering training and or qualifications to attract and retain volunteers to meet this change in emphasis in volunteering.  This can be an excellent way in which to meet the reciprocity inherent in effective volunteering.   As well as offering opportunities for both the organisation and the volunteer, there are also a number of issues and pitfalls to consider when developing such volunteering programmes.  This factsheet highlights some of these:
