Why do people with a learning disability have a higher rate of mental health problems than people without a learning disability?

In general, people with a learning disability have a higher rate of mental health problems than people without a learning disability. This could be due to the following reasons:

People with a learning disability may have a high exposure to negative social conditions such as poor employment prospects, limited education and inadequate housing. These are all thought to increase the risk of developing mental health problems.
