Medicines Policy - Guidelines for Volunteers

The aim of this policy is to make clear the extent to which volunteers may help a service user in connection with their medicines on discharge from hospital, under the Friends of Whitstable Hospital & HealthCare “Community Friends” (visiting & befriending) project.

1. MEDICINE STORAGE

The volunteer should leave the medication in a safe place which is discussed with the service user.

Medicines must be stored at an appropriate temperature. Usually this is a room temperature, but sometimes medicines need to be kept in a fridge. If this is the case, medicines should preferably be stored inside another plastic container well away from foodstuffs, stored in the fridge.
