Bassetlaw Hospital League of Friends
The Bassetlaw Hospital League of Friends was formed in 1954. It has around 60 members, who support and fundraise for Bassetlaw Hospital and the local community. Its aim is to enhance the treatment and comforts of patients at the hospital, to provide items that would not otherwise be available, and to keep abreast of the latest advance in medical care. In addition, the aim is to support the local community in all aspects of healthcare.
Most of the funds that they contribute to the hospital are raised through various fundraising events held throughout the year. These include raffles, concerts and coffee mornings, which take place frequently. Participants pay an admission fee of £1 to attend the coffee morning for which they receive coffee, biscuits and a friendly chat! The annual Summer Fayre is by far their most successful fundraiser. Each year the Summer Fayre raises over £1000 and has helped the League of Friends to commit over £5000 for the provision of various items and equipment for the hospital.
The Friends have supported all the major appeals of the hospital in purchasing state of the art equipment and items to make a visit to the hospital more comfortable. Amongst these purchases are wheelchairs, furniture for the day surgery unit, a datascope for the maternity unit, new armchairs for the Diabetic Resource Centre…… They also work to keep spirits high around the hospital by purchasing Christmas presents for patients who are restricted to the hospital over the festive season. The list of contributions to the hospital is impressive and the added comfort is very much appreciated by the hospital staff, patients and visitors.
For the Friends, the support that they provide is the most invaluable thing that they can do. Since the beginning of their time based at Bassetlaw Hospital, the Friends have raised over £250, 000 in order to purchase items and equipment specifically designed to better a patients comfort and treatment.
