Supporting Young people in Cliteroe via creative projects

The facility that 4 Youth are providing for local young people is unique and innovative. This is a fantastic example of a centre designed and managed by young people for young people. An amazing group run by amazing people.” — Nicole Dickins

The 4 Youth project aims to support young people, living in Clitheroe, by allowing them to take part in the development of their own juice bar and youth centre. They strive to leave indelible imprints on the lives of these local young people through the means of these fun and creative activities. This ultimately provides escapism from the anti-social behaviour problems that reside in the area.

Using a newly purchased 6,500 sq. ft. building, the 35 4 Youth volunteers are developing a juice bar that will be serving healthy drinks, healthy alternatives to junk food, and lunches and dinners at low prices. There will also be a satellite feed to show a variety of football games; internet access areas; homework support; pool tables; and arcades.

The volunteers are given full authority on the layout and design of the juice bar; this enables them to develop organisational skills and responsibility. The group aims to have the building completed and open sometime in the New Year and plans on having an opening day celebration.

4 Youth also serves as a place for youth to attain advice and support. Due to the dedicated and caring staff at 4 Youth, five of the 35 volunteers, who originally had planned not to, have gone on to study at college after staff had helped them to complete their applications.
