Vernova Healthcare CIC

Providing volunteering opportunities in a healthcare setting

Working here has been absolutely wonderful. What they offer the volunteer is second to none. They make the volunteer feel a priority and part of the organisation.

Vernova Healthcare has been functioning as a Community Interest Company since 2007. Previously, as the Friends of Waters Green, Vernova Healthcare covers the services previously offered by the Friends, in addition to other services that benefit the community.

Vernova Healthcare has also been involved in delivering a unique volunteering programme, held at Water Green Medical Centre, since April 2008. The organisation aims to help those who are not in employment, education or training by providing work experience and opportunities that will ultimately improve an individual’s employment prospects.

The Ambassador Service is one of the many opportunities provided for volunteers who wish to develop employment prospects. Under this service, volunteers provide a meet and greet service for visitors of the centre. They also staff a desk where patients can go for health related information, such as leaflets or through Infolink (a database which gives online access to local third sector and health care groups).

The volunteering project has proven to be immensely beneficial in a variety of ways. Not only does it provide quick information for patients but it is instrumental in helping volunteers to build their confidence, gain new skills and gain employment or routes into education. For students who want to apply to study medicine at University, this project provides invaluable experience needed for a UCAS application. It also provides social contact and enables people to give something back to their community.
